Raglane Entertainment is proud to present the critically acclaimed Grant-Lee Philips, for one night only in Dublin this April. Phillips will showcase his latest album, Little Moon at this one off show on Tuesday April 20th at The Sugar Club in Dublin. Tickets for the gig are available from usual Ticketmaster outlets.
Having found international fame and receiving a critical thumbs up with the hugely talented Grant Lee Buffalo in the mid nineties (Phillip's was voted the best male vocalist by Rolling Stone magazine in 1995), Phillips has since carved out an illustrious solo career. From 2001's experimental/electronic influenced Mobilize, to the one man show that was 2007's Strangelet, Phillip's has never been afraid to push the creative boundaries that many solo artists fail to break through . His latest album New Moon reflects a performer completely comfortable in his own skin and at the peak of his powers.
Released in October 2009, Little Moon was recorded in just four days by a core band of expert musicians consisting of Phillips on guitar and vocals, Jamie Edwards on a battery of keyboard instruments, producer and bassist Paul Bryan, drummer Jay Bellerose (most recently heard on Alison Krauss and Robert Plant's Raising Sand collaboration), and percussionist Sebastian Aymans. Reminiscent of Van Morrison's legendary Astral Week's sessions, the band gathered and rehearsed the material for one day, then entered the studio.
Having perfected the 12 tracks over a year of acoustic shows and performances, all songs were recorded live and without the aid of click tracks giving the album an organic vibe with a living, breathing quality which translates beautifully into Phillips live shows.
Speaking on the album ahead of his upcoming tour dates, Phillips says, "I've been around the block so many times with the process of recording," he continues, "and I've learned a thing or two about my own strengths: mainly that there is a considerable amount of subtlety in what I do, and it's best if it is captured in a way that is honest and direct. So this time out, I said 'I am going to feel very strongly about these songs, I am going to make sure that they can hold their own. I am going to perform them in the studio, and not build them from the ground up with overdubs.' It involved doing it in a very old-fashioned way, to get the most human quality and to capture what you get playing live."
