OTHER VOICES 8 – ACCLAIMED MUSIC SERIES RETURNS

Programme 2 of the latest series of Other Voices will run on RTE2 on Wednesday February 10th at 11.20pm. The second installment of the acclaimed music series features live performances from Dublin rockabilly superstar in waiting Imelda May, who recently performed with Jeff Beck at the Grammy’s; Omagh troubadours The Lost Brothers; indie darlings The xx and the IMRO Other Room featured band of the week are rising Cork stars O Emperor.

For programme information, artist biographies, exclusive photography from the
recordings, blogs and much more log on to www.othervoices.ie

Imelda May
2009 has been an incredible year for Dublin born Imelda May. Since performing on last season’s Other Voices the rockabilly star has shot to the top of the charts with her double platinum selling album Love Tattoo, becoming the first Irish Female Artist to top the Irish Charts in 14 years. Following her win at the 2009 Meteor Music Awards, Imelda and band went on to complete a sold out Irish tour including an incredible performance at Electric Picnic and Christmas show in The O2 in December. The burlesque inspired performer is known for her unmistakeably cool but quirky 50s signature style and her jazz and rockabilly infused music. She has shared the stage with Musical greats such as Dionne Warwick, Diana Ross, Bryan Ferry, The Supremes, Elvis Costello and Elton John. www.imeldamay.com

The Lost Brothers
The Lost Brothers are an Irish duo hailing from the mountains of Omagh and a mining town called Navan. Mark grew up in a travelling family band- the Moore band with Oisin growing up in the local dance hall. Having no fixed abode, their only home is their next gig. Their travels brought them to Portland, Oregon where they recorded their debut album Trails of the Lonely Part I & II with producer Mike Coykendall (M Ward, Bright Eyes) in a haunted attic. They released the album in the UK and Ireland on their own label- Bird Dog Recordings. As of April 2009 they began recording their second LP. www.myspace.com/thelostbrothersmusic

The xx
London, summer, 2009: The xx arrive with their debut album xx – a whole new sound of love, loss and longing. The xx are four kids who formed at London’s Elliot School in 2005 with Romy Madley Croft (lead vocals, guitar), Oliver Sim (lead vocals, bass) and Jamie Smith (beats, samples) are edging into our hearts. Their unique make-up is a second nature marriage of 2009’s urban/guitar tribes, in one corner fluttering new wave inspired reverberation, in the other, plumes of textured, post-dubstep sub-bass and figuratively, their defining core of rich R&B vocal textures. Their debut album xx was released on XL Recording’s bleeding edge Young Turks imprint (Holy Fuck, Gang Gang Dance, El Guincho).
The band is currently touring all over Europe and America. www.myspace.com/thexx

O Emperor
PO is the much anticipated debut release from the majestically named young Cork/Waterford quintet O EMPEROR, finalists in the ‘08 Williamsburg Live Song Contest, NYC and widely recognised as one of the brightest indie talents on the current burgeoning music scene. Self produced, impeccably arranged and immaculately performed, O EMPEROR create a multi-layered, multi-faceted sound with lyrics evoking childhood fears and adult frustrations; PO proves O EMPEROR have a genuine streak of originality and self awareness that manifests itself in this stunning debut release. www.myspace.com/oemperorofficial
